Definition: In this system, the key phrase "grappling patterns" is defined as;

1. a series of art form events, katas, that are comprised of static grappling events and kinetic grappling events,
2. two or more continuum's of integrated postures and/or movements, which are symbolic of grasping an opponent's body or some part of it
