In the White Lotus System of Unarmed Combat®, the expression "kata" is a label that's used to identify;

Definition:
In this system, the key term "kata" is defined as;
1. an expression that refers to an art form pattern; e.g. a short or long series of integrated art form positions and art form actions,
2. an expression that refers to a biomechanical pattern; e.g. a short or long series of integrated biomechanical positions and biomechanical actions,
3. an expression that refers to a guarding pattern; e.g. a short or long series of integrated guarding positions and guarding actions,
4. an expression that refers to a striking pattern; e.g. a short or long series of integrated striking positions and striking actions,
5. an expression that refers to a blocking pattern; e.g. a short or long series of integrated blocking positions and blocking actions,
6. an expression that refers to a parrying pattern; e.g. a short or long series of integrated parrying positions and parrying actions,
7. an expression that refers to a grappling pattern; e.g. a short or long series of integrated grappling positions and grappling actions,
8. an expression that refers to a throwing pattern; e.g. a short or long series of integrated throwing positions and throwing actions
