Definition: In this system, the key phrase "guarding patterns" is defined as;

1. a series of art form events, katas, that are comprised of static guarding events and kinetic guarding events,
2. two or more continuum's of integrated postures and/or movements, which are symbolic of keeping one's body or some part of it from harm
